Specialist training and consulting

Dr Lai completed the qualifications and became a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists in 2009.

In 2009 Dr Lai earned her FRANZCO distinction, recognised as a Specialist Ophthalmologist.

The distinction is only awarded to specialist surgeons who have completed a minimum of 12 years medical and surgical education, with at least 5 years of specialist postgraduate Ophthalmology training and successful completion of examinations set by The Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (RANZCO).


Renowned Surgical Fellowship in Advanced Cataract and Glaucoma Surgery at University of Toronto, Canada 2007

Sub-specialized in complex Cataract surgery and Glaucoma surgery
(including Minimal Invasive Glaucoma and Femtosecond Laser-assisted Cataract Surgery).

Worked as past consultant Ophthalmologist at Fremantle Hospital and Royal Perth Hospital.

Dr Lai was the first female eye surgeon to use bladeless LenSx laser-assisted cataract surgery in Western Australia – 2012.

Dr Lai and Dr Wu were the first surgeons to introduce Zepto Micropulse Capsulotomy-assisted Cataract surgery in Western Australia – 2017.
